There was a discussion on Twitter with regards to whether URLs should be updated, if articles themselves are updated.
Google’s John Mueller joined in the discussion to say he’d recommend not making changes to URLs:
I’d really recommend keeping the same URLs for the long run.
This isn’t the first time that John has clarified this point, saying something very similar in a Reddit discussion in August 2018:
I’d avoid changing URLs unless you have a really good reason to do so, and you’re sure that they’ll remain like that in the long run.
There are many reasons for this, with both internal and external links being factors that wouldn’t benefit from a change in URL.
Some people refer to these URLs that never need to be changed as ‘ever-green URLs’.
